The Library’s On-Line Public Access Catalog (OPAC) can be
accessed at the Library or from your home computer at
http://swan.mls.lib.il.us.
The OPAC will give you the location and status of any item in
the
Metropolitan Library System, as well as the Schiller Park Public
Library. As a member of the
Metropolitan Library System, the library can obtain items from other
libraries for our patrons through Interlibrary Loan.

The staff will be happy to help patrons search the catalog, assisting with subject headings, locating items on the shelf and placing local and interlibrary loans for items that are checked-out or not owned by the Schiller Park Public Library. There are no reservations taken for use of the OPAC and there is no printing from these terminals.
The Library subscribes to several on-line reference databases that may be accessed by patrons. The reference databases include encyclopedias, products for locating magazine articles, information on authors and works of literature and other reference type materials for adults and students.
Material may be printed from this terminal at $.10 per page. There are no reservations for the use of the reference databases.
Two word processing computers and a printer are available for patron use in our computer room. There is a limit of 2 persons at a time allowed in the room. Reservations are recommended and can only be made for the same day it will be used.
There is a cost of $.10 per page for printing, whether you bring your own paper or not. Patrons must know how to operate the equipment and programs. The staff is not available to assist except in the case of problems with the equipment.
To use the word processing computers, the patron must sign up at the Circulation Desk and present driver’s license, state ID or their own library card.
Patrons have access to Internet terminals at the library. To use the Internet, patrons must present a government- issued ID or their own library card. All patrons may sign up for one hour at a time; if no one is waiting they may remain on the terminal longer.
If
patrons wish to print, the cost is $.10 per page, whether they bring their own
paper or not.
Patron must know how to use the Internet. The staff will be available to assist with problems with the equipment and to offer suggestions for search terms that can be used to find information.
Students under sixth grade cannot use the Internet alone; their parent must accompany them.
From sixth grade to age 18, the student must come in with their parent and the
parent must sign a consent slip for their child to use the Internet, after both
have read the Internet Users Policy.
